Come and Sing "Messiah"

NANTWICH Choral Society will be holding a Come and Sing event featuring Handel's "Messiah" on Saturday, February 10, at St Mary's Parish Church in the town centre.

   Taking part will be Sarah Helsby Hughes (soprano), Harriet Goodwin (mezzo soprano), Stephen Newlove (tenor), and Peter Edge (bass baritone). They will be accompanied by Nantwich Sinfonia - leader Alison Loram, conductor John Naylor.

   Rehearsals will be from 10.30 am to 12.30pm and 2.15pm to 4pm. The public performance will be at 6pm.

Nantwich Roots announce first acts

TICKETS for this year's Nantwich Roots event - "your stroll through the worlds of folk, roots, blues and American music" - are now on sale. The first four acts to be announced so far are:

 

EDDI READER will be performing on Saturday, May 18, at Nantwich Civic Hall in Market Street, with her band. Her hit songs include "Patience of Angels", "Find My Love" and the evergreen "Perfect". The U.K. singer has received three Brit Awards.

   She was chosen to sing at the opening of the new Scottish Parliament buildings when she was presented to Queen Elizabeth II.

ELLES BAILEY is a blues / Americana-styled singer and a self-proclaimed "rolling stone". A recipient of two UK Americana awards, she often fronts Jules Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. She is a presenter on Planet Rock Radio.

    She and her five-piece band will be playing hits from her Top 40 album "Shining in the Half Light" at The Crown Ballroom in High Street on Tuesday, May 14.

STEVE WICKHAM, the Irish musician, is best known as a member of the Waterboys with whom he has contributed to famous tracks including "Fisherman Blues" and "The Pan Within". He is a solo artist and member of The No Crows, and known as "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin". He will be performing with multi instrumentalist RAY COEN on Sunday, May 19, at the Civic Hall.

MERRY HELL, the Wigan-based six-piece, were awarded the prestigious Folking Award for the best UK live act in 2022. That year they played at most of the major festivals. They will be playing folk/rock on the opening night of the festival, Monday, May 13, at Nantwich Town F.C's Swansway Stadium, in The Waterlode, CW5 5BS
