A great day for a spring clean

March 2017                                                                                              A NANTWICH LITTER GROUP PAGE

A Spring Clean Litter Pick organised by Nantwich Litter Group (NLG) took place on Saturday morning (March 4) in welcome sunshine.

The event, held in support of the Keep Britain Tidy Spring Clean Campaign, was led by NLG volunteer Christine Farrell.

A large group of volunteers gathered in Nantwich Square, including members of the Litter Group, Nantwich Civic Society, The Rotary Club of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver, Crewe and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson (right of centre; in front of the man in a blue cap) and Nantwich Town Council Mayor, Cllr Andrew Martin (left of centre).

Also joining in the pick was a large contingent from the 7th South West Cheshire Millfields Cub Scouts. The enthusiastic youngsters are currently working to complete their environmental conservation badges.

Their Assistant Cub Leader, Cheryl Hamlyn, commented: "Getting involved with community activities is a very big part of the Scouting movement.

"Activities like The Spring Clean Litter Pick really teach the children the importance of not littering and by helping to keep Nantwich tidy they feel proud of themselves and gain a real sense of community," she said.

The volunteers divided into small groups to cover various areas of the town, gathering a huge number of filled green bags which were stacked by litter bins to be collected by Ansa, Cheshire East Council's street cleansing team.

The pick was an opportunity to demonstrate the pride felt for the town by the volunteers and to encourage everyone to become more litter aware.
