MEMBERS of Nantwich Litter Group met on a recent Saturday morning to cover a section of the canal bank near the Telford Aqueduct in Welsh Row.
Between nine volunteers, 30 bags of rubbish and various larger items were collected and later removed by Cheshire East's Streetscape team for disposal.
The work of the group was complimented by passing walkers and boaters, one of whom kindly transported some of the bags on his boat to the Aqueduct collection point. The session finished with welcome refreshments at the Waterside Cafe.
The canals of England and Wales are looked after by the Canal and River Trust, but with over 2,000 miles of canals and rivers it's a rather big job. Therefore the efforts of individuals and groups, such as the Nantwich Litter Group, help significantly to keep our canal presentable, encouraging tourism as a result.
