NANTWICH is the Best Market Town in Cheshire. So says Cheshire Community Action, who presented members of Nantwich in Bloom Committee with that title as one of three Civic Pride awards on September 24.

The town won the Champion Market Town or Village in Cheshire award in the section for populations between 10,001 and 30,000.

We were also the overall winner of the Community Pride award - which earned us the title and a "Cheshire Life" water colour of a Nantwich scene (Church Walk).

Nantwich also won the Little Gem Award for floral displays.

Nantwich in Bloom Committee Chairman, Alderman Doug Butterill said: "We won everything we could!"

The awards ceremony, held in Northwich, was attended by Crewe and Nantwich MP, Edward, Timpson.

The awards won by Nantwich were sponsored by Shell UK, Stanlow. Nantwich won a Community Pride award in 2008.

Civic Pride used to be known as the Best Kept Village Competition.
