At the AGM, the members enjoyed a short talk by the new
Conservation Officer for our area at Cheshire East
Council - Katherine Bailey - to whom I presented a small bunch of flowers in
appreciation of her giving up her free time (pictured
right).
The "crowd"(!) photo at the
top of the page shows me, in
the centre, with our President, Keith Burton, to the right.
Just behind Keith, the tall fair-haired
gentleman is our third Chairman from the 1970s,
Keith Ward, who was given an especially warm
welcome.
The picture above also includes the
newly-installed Mayor of Nantwich, Cllr Penny Butterill (third
from the right, front row) with Alderman Doug Butterill - her husband and
Consort during her term of office - behind her. They are both
members of the society.
There are also other Town Councillors and
well known townspeople who are members of other
local groups as well as our society.

OUR 50th anniversary Annual
General Meeting - an historic event for the town -
was celebrated on Tuesday, May 16, in Nantwich
Museum's lovely Millennium Gallery.
The society was
formed by some very enlightened Nantwich residents.
Worried by the
demolition, in previous years, of many historic
buildings they, like many other communities, formed
a voluntary society to press for better building
design standards and conservation of their historic
environment.
The first Town
Centre Conservation Area a few years later was their
major success - it has been enlarged twice since
then.
The town has 132 listed buildings -
the
highest number
in
Cheshire East. |
