The Snow Hill car park from The Waterlode. Part of the planned development area that has been shelved by Cheshire East Council

Jeff Stubbs (Chairman) writes:

I WAS really pleased to have secured Adrian Fisher, Head of Planning and Policy at Cheshire East Council, to speak to us before our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, April 27, at Nantwich Museum. He talked about “Aspects of Planning in Cheshire East”.

Here are up-dates on some of the issues affecting Nantwich.

Snow Hill: Last year we wondered if the economic downturn would affect the proposed development of the area. Well, it did! Cheshire East Council said that it has been shelved for the foreseeable future.

Welsh Row turned out to be something of a mixed bag with some good aspects to the surfacing and some not – the same goes for the traffic calming features. The loss

of the chains and posts in the name of safety (according to highway engineers) has been noted by many as regrettable.

Cocoa Yard: The second application for a new shop or office was refused after we and lots of others in town objected.

Sainsbury’s redevelopment and enlargement was the biggest scheme to come our way in 2009. We had a successful meeting with their architects and I’m glad to say that the company and the planning authority took on board many suggestions from the society. It is due to start this year.

The Riverside Project came to an end but new plans are being devised by a number of local people for a new Greenspaces South Cheshire CIC group.

Street Audit of Nantwich town centre: We are getting on with this and I hope to conclude the survey and analyse findings in a few weeks.

Monk’s Lane: I have not heard any more yet about the situation but the drier weather has reduced the danger for people walking along it for the time being.
