ST Mary's Parish Church, Nantwich, was
packed on June 9, 2008, as people from all walks of life paid tribute to
the late Mrs Gwyneth Dunwoody, popular MP for Crewe and Nantwich,
until her death after a short illness in May.
The memorial service, led
by the Rector of Nantwich, the Rev Peter Chantry, included a tribute
by Dennis Dunn, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the MMU (Manchester
Metropolitan University), Cheshire; extracts from a condolence book
read by members of the Dunwoody family, "a few words" by Mrs
Dunwoody's daughter, Tamsin, a reading by Borough Councillor Peter
Kent, music by Crewe Male Voice Choir, and solos by

Neil Raisbeck
and Alex Holsgrove of the Lions Youth Brass.
A Lesson was read by
David Maidment of "Railway Children", a charity supported by Mrs
Dunwoody.
After the service, Tamsin Dunwoody and her children lined up in the well of the church
to thank people for attending the service.
Among those present was
Edward Timpson, the new MP for Crewe and Nantwich, who took the seat
held by Mrs Dunwoody. (See this page).
