A NEW seating area has been
added to the site of Nantwich Mill, on what is now Mill
Island.
From an idea
initiated by Jeff Stubbs, who is chair of both Nantwich
Partnership and Nantwich Civic Society, the area features an
informal semi-circle of benches, boulders and
cherry trees.
The partnership
worked alongside Ansa - which is a wholly-owned business of
Cheshire East Council - and a landscape architect to create
a seating area with a natural look that blends into the
landscape.
Jeff commented:
“This idea has been in the pipelines for a while now. During
the pandemic we have seen an increase in the use of the
river and the canal.
"We felt that the
seating needed to be designed in such a way as to create
social spaces where people could relax and spend a good
amount of time enjoying the atmosphere of the town centre.”
Visiting the
seating feature, the Mayor of Nantwich, Cllr Stuart Bostock,
said: “Mill Island is a special place to me. I grew up
playing around here and I also worked at the Mill. I am
delighted with the results of this project and feel it will
be a real asset to the community. I would like to thank all
those involved in the project for their hard work.”
oThe
River Weaver flows around the mill site, and the Shropshire Union Canal crosses Welsh Row over an
aqueduct on the road to Chester.
